In recognition of Men’s Health Month this June, Northland Health Centers is encouraging men across the region to take proactive steps toward improving their health and well-being. Through prevention, routine care, and strong connections with trusted healthcare providers, men can take meaningful action to live healthier, longer lives.
“Men’s Health Month is a great reminder that taking care of your health isn’t just something you do when you’re sick—it’s something you invest in every day,” said Melissa McClintock, Chief Clinical and Operations Officer at Northland Health Centers. “One of the most important steps men can take is establishing care with a primary care provider close to home. Having that relationship makes it easier to catch concerns early and stay on track with preventive care.”

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Health Statistics Report, men are less likely than women to visit a healthcare provider regularly, which can lead to delayed diagnoses and poorer health outcomes. Northland Health Centers aims to reduce these gaps by making comprehensive, high-quality primary care accessible in the communities they serve.
Simple Steps Men Can Take to Stay Healthy
Northland Health Centers encourages men to focus on a few key habits that can make a big difference:
- Schedule regular checkups – Annual exams help monitor blood pressure, cholesterol, and overall health.
- Know your numbers – Understanding key health indicators can help detect early warning signs.
- Stay active – Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days of the week.
- Eat balanced meals – Focus on lean proteins, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.
- Prioritize mental health – Don’t ignore stress, anxiety, or depression—talk to a provider if needed.
- Limit tobacco and alcohol use – Quitting tobacco and limiting alcohol intake can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, lung disease, and other serious health conditions.
“Preventive care is one of the most powerful tools we have,” McClintock added. “By seeing a provider regularly, men can better manage chronic conditions, improve mental health, and maintain a higher quality of life.”
Care Close to Home Matters
Northland Health Centers emphasizes the importance of convenient, local care. When patients have access to a primary care provider in their own community, they are more likely to attend appointments, follow treatment plans, and build lasting relationships with their care team.
“Our goal is to meet patients where they are and make healthcare approachable and accessible,” said McClintock. “When care is close to home, it removes barriers—and that can make all the difference.”
This Men’s Health Month, Northland Health Centers invites men and their families to take action by scheduling a checkup and making health a priority. To learn more or to schedule an appointment, visit NorthlandCHC.org or call 877-609-3577.
