Northland Health Centers to Break Ground at New Main Street Site

TURTLE LAKE, ND – May 4, 2023 On Tuesday, May 9, at 11:00 a.m., Northland Health Centers will host a public groundbreaking to celebrate the start of construction at its future Turtle Lake site on the corner of Main Street and 1st Avenue. Northland’s current clinic and administration services will consolidate and relocate to the new building, planned on the City of Turtle Lake’s land where the Train Depot used to reside. Northland is working with JLG Architects and Roers Construction, anticipating a May 2024 opening.

The new 12,000-square-foot facility will allow Turtle Lake’s Northland Health Centers to co-locate administration, medical, dental and behavioral health, while offering a multi-purpose community space. Designed by JLG Architects, Northland Health Centers will include:

  • • Check-in and waiting area
  • • Medical Clinic – three exam rooms, specialist and mental health rooms, nurse station, and lab
  • • Dental Clinic with hygiene and sterilization rooms, three operatory bays, and lab
  • • 1,000-square-foot Community Room with galley-style kitchen and serving counter
  • • Administration offices and conference space

In spearheading the project, Nadine Boe, Northland’s Turtle Lake Chief Executive Officer, was a firm advocate for the Center’s designation of gathering space to be used by the entire community – serving family celebrations, meetings, youth and senior activities, fitness classes, and health, safety, and wellness events.

“We are very excited to provide a modernized healthcare setting and fantastic community space to further invest in the future of Turtle Lake’s Main Street. We want everyone to feel welcome at Northland, and this new, more united Center will create the support, services, and connectivity we need to contribute to our community’s health and enrichment.”

Prior to 2023’s new construction plans, Northland’s preliminary master planning and pre-design in early 2022 explored adding clinic space and remodeling the existing administration space. In late 2022, further cost and structural analysis led Northland Health Centers to pursue the schematic design of new construction. The larger, more visible Center will efficiently consolidate the central office, medical, dental, and behavioral health care under one roof.

Northland Health Centers worked with JLG to establish a design concept for the new building, demonstrating “Rural Healthcare in a Modern Setting.”

“The exterior of the building will fit beautifully into the existing fabric of downtown Turtle Lake, elevating Main Street with simple, modern forms and materiality that relates to the region,” explained JLG Architects’ Shauntel Fett, AIA.
